R&G Mini + MMX = Full Circle

lifeseverchanging

Who’s sad Romy books are over? Yeah, me too. But let’s relish in how blessed we were in 2018 and 2019, shall we?

As I read the final panels of the final issue of MMX #12 - I came to the realization that Rogue felt the confidence in her relationship with her new husband that Remy’s always had in regards to their relationship (the one she always seemed to lack).

In the Rogue and Gambit Mini issue #4 - Rogue has a moment where she is scared they will lose what they have finally re-discovered.

image

Remy simply tells her that they just have to make sure they do hold on to what they have.

Forward to MMX Issue #12:

Remy was reflecting and dealing with all sorts of feelings brought up by being back “home” in New Orleans…

image

he starts to have a smidgen of doubt and Rogue comes right in to apologize to him for all of the times he’s had to prove himself to her.

image

In these final panels it was refreshing to see Rogue as confident as Remy was back in the R&G Mini. This is another fine example as to why these two are so great together.

The amount of emotional growth Kelly Thompson gave to Rogue is pretty astounding. Not just with the figuring out of her powers which of course was MONUMENTAL but to see her have that love and confidence with Gambit is such a wonderful thing.

image

I’m incredibly sad that their duo book is over but I’ll cherish how much they’ve grown together as individuals and as a couple on their journey into marriage.

I have to end this post with the final frame of their book.

image

Hopefully some future writer will respect the hard work that Kelly gave to these two and leave them at peace for as long as we can hope for.

mothmothmothmothmothmotj asked:

So are the AM archives going to permanently behind a paywall?

thelaurenshippen answered:

Hey! Yep, as of right now, The AM Archives will be behind a paywall for the foreseeable. That may not always be the case, but it will be a few years at least even if it does become widely available.

I know that the decision to partner with an exclusive platform is going to be disappointing to some people. So, in the interest of full transparency and because podcasting is still a rapidly growing and changing medium, I want to explain my reasoning.

First off, The AM Archives ≠ The Bright Sessions. There are five returning characters (Dr. Bright, Sam, Agent Green, Mark, and Wadsworth) but there’s a whole new cast of characters, a hugely different format and focus, and a minimal amount of context from The Bright Sessions that you’d need to listen to the new show. The Bright Sessions will always be free and available to everyone, everywhere (barring, like, the heat death of the universe or podcast apps all suddenly crashing or something). Part of the reason I wanted to put this show somewhere other than the TBS feed is because I don’t want our current listeners to assume they are getting more of the same.

Secondly, Luminary has given me and my team an opportunity that I literally have never encountered anywhere else in entertainment before - they’ve given us an actual, workable budget and complete creative autonomy. And I mean complete - I am the only one giving notes on the scripts and, with my team of writers, deciding the content of the show.

We’ve had a Patreon for several years that enabled us to survive and do bonus episodes that would have otherwise been impossible. But to pull back the curtain on that a bit: one month of our Patreon earnings equals the cost of one bonus episode. Thankfully, we’ve been able to pay everyone - guest writers, guest actors, Julia & Mischa - pretty fairly, but we’ve made no additional profit off of the Patreon, ever.

When I first decided I wanted to make a spin-off series, I knew I wanted to expand what we could do - get more writers in there, give Mischa a larger budget to really spread their wings, have Evan do a complete score, expand our cast to be even more inclusive and dynamic. I’m really, really proud to say that we’ve done that.

I’m still the head writer of course, but we have three additional amazing writers - all who love podcasts and either have some experience and want more or are just getting into the medium - over 20 actors with a range of backgrounds and experience, and 20 episodes that will have intricate sound design and scoring. Everyone is actually being paid a fair, livable wage and we were able to get Atypical Artists off the ground, a company that we’re going to use to make more great - and free - content.

I know that not everyone will be able to - or have interest in - afford an 8/month subscription service to listen to a single podcast (though there are some other great shows on there - personally, I’m extra excited for Jonathan Cameron Mitchell’s musical). But in order for podcasting to grow - and for audio dramas in particular to level up as an industry - we’ve all got to try a lot of different things to see how we can create a sustainable and thriving creative industry. This is not the only show I’ll be releasing in the next few years by any means, but it is one of the things that’s allowing me to pay my employees and push my storytelling chops.

I hope many of you will subscribe to Luminary (and buy my book!) so that I can continue to pay people to make art, but I’m also working hard on telling stories that everyone can partake in, no matter the circumstance. I am but one small part in an expanding, vibrant community, and I’m going to do what I can to financially support artists and pull more people into the audio medium as both creators and listeners.

Stay strange,

Lauren

It’s so unbelievably generous to give fans this information, and we’ll in advance of the changes no less! Listeners can look into Luminary as a service, figure out their budgets, and ultimately decide if subscribing for content behind the paywall makes sense for them.

Very excited for this series to return, of course. Excited as well to see this getting highlighted as a relaunch, hopefully it gets people’s attention!

As promised, here’s a preview of the art from LAZARUS 29, by Michael Lark. This is from the opening sequence of the issue, the reveal of Forever after 2-plus years of warfare. To explain, the X +66 mini-series took us through…well, the Year X +66. When we resume with 29, it’s now X +68. A lot of water has gone under the bridge.

(It has not escaped me, either, that this is a two-year gap…which will be roughly the same length of time since we last released a “regular” issue. Sigh. Oh, irony.)

For those interested in process, the lettering here is dropped in by Michael as placeholder before Simon Bowland finalizes and balloons it.

When Michael and I discussed the chnages to Forever since we last saw her, I wanted the short “military” haircut. He told me I’d immediately begin missing the longer hair.

He was right. He normally is.

djregular asked:

Actually, since you're talking RPGs, would you be able to answer any questions about the World of Lazarus book that'll be coming out later this year? Do you know if it'll cover ground in the sourcebooks (ie. if you were interested in running a game set in the world, would you recommend going through those sourcebooks in addition to the RPG?)? Also, if you were running a session of a Lazarus RPG, who would you focus on as the PCs?

ruckawriter-deactivated20200128 answered:

There were two crucial principles for the development of the World of Lazarus for me, and Green Ronin was all-in with both. First, I wanted anything included in the book to be considered “canon” – if it’s in the sourcebook then it exists in the universe as described in the series, even if it’s never been seen in the series. Second, and following on that, we had to absolutely present new information in the sourcebook.

The second wasn’t actually that hard to do, since the sourcebook really does cover the world, or as much as we could cram in. All of the Families are described, which provides a lot more information than we’ve ever been able to publish about them prior. Their connections, and how the world works (or, really, fails to work) are much more clearly defined.

There are a lot of NPCs, as well, one for each Family as described. Those characters are “world” characters – they exist when I’m writing the comic, etc.

So, yeah, I mean…my feeling was that, even if you’re not into RPGs, I wanted fans of the series to be able to pick up the World of Lazarus sourcebook and get *more* out of it.

As for a session? I’m hoping, once everything is launched and the book is out there, that I’ll get to run a game or two at a con. I’ve got an idea of a one-shot where the players are members of Dagger Bravo and they’re sent to take out a stop on the Bloody Railroad…and things don’t go quite as planned….

Michael got pissed off. When Michael gets pissed off, he gets even angrier than I do. The only upside to Michael being pissed off is that he creates some beautiful artwork. The shirts feature an original piece by Michael of Forever and Eight. All funds raised will go to ActBlue’s Support Kids at the Border fund.

Please consider supporting this campaign.

Thanks.

And… that’s a wrap!

Well, we’ve done it. We’ve recorded the series finale of the The Bright Sessions, which will be released on June 13th.

I can’t express how much gratitude I have for @laurenshippen and this crazy little journey she brought me on. I can still remember the first time she reached out to me - on Facebook, none the less - asking me if I might be willing to be involved in this tiny little idea she had and in that same message, saying something along the lines of “I totally understand if you don’t want to.” And she told me it was a podcast or an audio drama, and I had no idea what that meant, but I knew that I liked Lauren and I liked being asked to do things and yes, of course, I’m always happy to collaborate with my friends.

And here we are, three years later, and The Bright Sessions has become a phenomenon I never could have imagined.

I have never in my life had the opportunity to be a part of a world so meaningful and impacting. I’ve never had the opportunity to play a role so complex and multi-dimensional and heavy and challenging and fulfilling as Dr. Joan Bright. I have never been blessed to get to perform such solid, beautiful writing with such a talented and loving cast. And I have never been so lucky to be involved in a project that has received this amount of support and love from such a unique and amazing group of fans.

But, alas, all good things must come to an end… eventually.

I did cry a bit when we recorded the series finale on Wednesday. But I’m not that much of a wreck yet. Why? Because the series finale is truly just the ending of one chapter and the beginning of the next. I am so lucky that I get to be involved in 9 bonus episodes to be released once-a-month starting in July. And, at least one of the spin-offs to be released over the next couple of years. Also, when the TV show gets into pre-production, you better believe I’ll be demanding an audition.

And there are other projects to keep me distracted - I mean, busy. (I don’t escape feelings of sadness and inadequacy by hiding in work and projects like Joan does, no, I definitely don’t relate to her on that level at all, and that’s sarcasm, y’all). As some of you already know, I’m collaborating with my Caleb, @briggonsnow on a digital series @pure-theseries and my best friend Shaina (who does not exist on social media at all) on a comedy-horror podcast titled American Comedy Horror Story: Orphanage currently in post). So… there will be things. Until then, thank you to Lauren Shippen, the amazing cast and crew, and all the listeners who have given us so much love these past few years. Thank you, and I love you all!

shatteringstars . I really was inspired to draw @lewistanofficial‘s shatterstar and i personally cant wait to see him on the big screen. I talk about this with my friends all the time Asian male heroes are so rare in the X-men let alone comics. which is kinda surprising to me with how diverse the X-men are. Sure we have someone like Sunfire but he hasn’t officially joined and a character like thunderbird the 3rd a min man member. Sunfire also represents a series of ideas from a different generation as well. a more nuanced look at an update character would be awesome imho. I’m glad some people are taking steps in this other direction. Also I keep thinking about how cool it would be to watch someone like shatter star ⭐️ on the big screen 📺 at age 10. It would have blown my mind!#deadpool#deadpoolmovie

Why Violence? Luther Strode!

youngonescast

Content Warning CW: Graphic Violence, Blood

image

It is rare in superhero comics for violence to not be a feature in the plot. For better or worse, superheroes have the use of force as a trope. Punching things is far more often than not considered a reasonable course of action in a world of powered individuals who may or may not see themselves as heroes and/or villains. That use of force has not been dissected better than by writer Justin Jordan and artist Tradd Moore in The Strange Talent of Luther Strode. Supported by the superlative work of colorist Felipe Sobreiro this team deftly navigates a tale that centers on truly unreasonable violence to an exploration of the concept itself.

If you could pick any actor to play Caleb... Why would Chris Evans be the perfect man for this job? Lol

thebrightsessions answered:

I love the sheer randomness and mystery of this question. This is the most recent question in my inbox and…why now? From a tumblr that has zero posts? Why Chris Evans? A man who is quite literally 20 years too old to play Caleb? Everything about this ask is perfect - the answering of your own question with another question, the ‘Lol’ at the end…who is this? What do you want? Are you, in fact, Chris Evans?
